Overview
As your business evolves, your GST Registration details must reflect the current reality. Failing to update the GST portal regarding a change of address, addition of a new branch, or change in directors/partners can result in the suspension of your GSTIN. The GST department classifies amendments into two types: "Core Fields" (Legal name, principal address, addition/deletion of partners) which require approval from a tax officer, and "Non-Core Fields" (Bank details, authorized signatory email/phone) which are updated automatically upon filing.

Our step-by-step advisory workflow.
Step 1: Application Drafting (REG-14)
We draft the amendment application, selecting the specific fields that need alteration and attaching the corresponding proofs.
Step 2: Submission via DSC/EVC
The application is submitted using Aadhaar OTP or Digital Signature.
Step 3: Department Scrutiny (Core Fields)
If the amendment is for a Core Field, a tax officer will review the attached documents. They may issue a notice (REG-03) requesting clarification if proofs are insufficient.
Step 4: Approval & Update
Upon approval, an updated Registration Certificate is issued, and the changes reflect instantly on the public GST portal.
Key Advantages of Timely Amendments
Updating your profile protects you from operational disruptions.
Avoid Notice of Suspension
If a tax inspector visits your registered address and finds the business has moved without updating the portal, they will immediately suspend your GSTIN.
Seamless E-Way Bills
Adding an additional place of business (like a new warehouse) to your certificate ensures you can legally generate e-way bills to and from that location.
Smooth Tax Refunds
Keeping your bank account details updated (Non-Core amendment) is crucial to ensure your IGST refunds and ITC refunds don't fail.
Frequently Asked Questions
Helpful answers to common regulatory inquiries.
Can I change my PAN number on the GST certificate?▼
No. Since the GSTIN is entirely based on the PAN, you cannot amend the PAN. If the constitution of the business changes (e.g., Proprietorship converting to Pvt Ltd with a new PAN), you must cancel the old GSTIN and apply for a fresh one.
How long does a Core amendment take?▼
A Core amendment (like address change) requires officer approval and typically takes 7 to 15 working days. Non-Core amendments (like changing phone numbers) are updated immediately.
Is there any government fee for amendment?▼
No, the GST portal does not charge any official fee for filing an amendment.
